Ephesians 6:18 – ”And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
Praying for the Holy Spirit's leading is like writing your plans in pencil and giving God the Eraser! He owns them, we simply humbly come asking for His leading and our flexibility to hear, listen, apply and follow!
“Prayer is: Earthly permission for Heavenly Interference.” - Tony Evans
PREPARATORY PRAYER (Prior) – It is praying to ask for His guidance to help us seek the path He desires us to take. Seeking His understanding, peace and wisdom through prayer to walk the direction he has chosen for us to go.
IMPLEMENTATION PRAYER (During) – To always keep him at the forefront of everything we do, following the path he has chosen for us and living his truth and loving others well, by loving them where they are and loving them till they ask why! Our desire is to allow God to have precedence in all decisions and making him more significant than ourselves. This requires constant evaluation of why we are here and why we are proceeding down the path we are on. Philippians 2:14-16a.
It is having an attitude of gratitude in all that we do, where we go and who we see. Psalm 40:1-3
REFLECTIVE PRAYER (After) - To look back over the path taken and to reflect and glimpse at the lives touched, the places visited and do we see HiS PRINT visible. Was the fruit of the spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control evident in all situations encountered in the areas he allowed us to go and the lives he allowed us to touch? Ephesians 3:20-21
Three Characteristics of Prayer – Consistent, Constant, Concentrated.
Consistent – Our prayers need to be consistent with keeping God first and that we are consistently seeking His will to be done, His path to be followed, His truth to be revealed and for His glory and praise to be raised!
Constant – Do we pray without ceasing no matter the situation, problem, praise we are in, the path we walk out daily is bathed in prayer! Staying constantly connected allows you to stay plugged into the ultimate power source, God’s Holy Spirit. (See the PLUG Prayer below)
Concentrated – Do we take the time to sit quietly and undisturbed so that we give Him our total concentration, which includes meditating in silence listening for His still small voice! This characteristic demands the most commitment and is often neglected and therefore we never utilize or experience God’s ultimate power!
There is a Russian proverb that says: “To change a culture, you have to clean one doorstep at a time!” Our purpose is to use the power of the Holy Spirit to use us to leave HiS PRINT on every door step we have the chance to help clean! God cleans the heart while we help clean the surroundings, by lIving truth and loving well and we do that by serving others!
P.L.U.G. Prayer – Great prayer to emphasize how we desire God to be a part of our lives and remind us where He is in our lives! This is especially effective for spouses and groups, etc.
As we PLUG into Him we are PLUGGED into the ultimate power source and receive the benefits!
